Maybe your go-nowhere conversations won’t be a problem. Maybe you’ll find lots of readers like me who dig that sort of thing …

Also, you’re so right about Neverwhere. If you ever get a chance to visit London, read it right before. That totally adds to the “secretly wonderful” feeling.

Backs, huh? I have been thinking more about my throat thing, and I think it has something to do with vulnerability again. Apparently I just want to read books about people exposing their wrists and throats to each other.

Thank you so much, Robert! I’m glad that Rebecca wouldn’t leave you alone about my book and also that you got sick and had time to read. (Not really. I hope you’re better now.)

This part of your note me laugh — “It was adorable, which is a word I didn’t know was in my vocabulary.”

Whenever guys ask me if this book will be too girly for them, I never know what to say. I’m always like, “Well . . . it’s about a guy. And there are no cupcakes . . .” . Not that I have a problem with cupcakes, but anyway, it’s reassuring to hear from a guy who liked it.

Disclosure: I’m Rebecca’s husband. I *just* finished reading Attachments an hour ago. And I really, REALLY enjoyed it. I ended up so engrossed that I spent most of my sick day from work reading the second half of the book. I couldn’t help it; I don’t know if this is the general consensus, but the further along I read, the more I wanted to read. Even the characters on the periphery of the novel were people I’d want to hang out with.
Anyhow. It was adorable, which is a word I didn’t know was in my vocabulary. We may need to import Eleanor & Park.

My biggest thing that’s not on your list
When the main characters are unbelievably smart. I love smart characters (Lisbeth Salander, Peekay (Power of One), Mark Zuckerberg (movie character not the actual person)

Also
Over the top secondary characters.

Descriptions of backs and shoulders.

Thank you, Rachel! It’s really exciting for me to talk to people who have read/are reading E&P because so few people have read it (yet), and I have no idea what the general feeling or response will be.

It is hard to pigeonhole, you’re right. I think that’s partly why it’s being released as a YA book in the U.S. but an adult book in other countries . . . And it’s a love story, but not really a romance.

I’m just SO HAPPY that you’re enjoying it, and that you’re enjoying the characters. Eleanor and Park are both very close to my heart.

I’d love to read your review once you post it . . .

I’m halfway through reading this for review purposes. I’m loving it, although it is very tricky to put into a pigeon hole. This is probably why I’m loving it so much. The characters have so much depth and running the two stories concurrently and interweaving lends to the chaos that they themselves must be feeling.

Two statements I can totally relate to and make this conversation the best –
This one:
“3. Mitch would never start that conversation because it would end with me saying I know he has sinful thoughts about Seven of Nine from Star Trek: Voyager”

and this one:
